Web Page Layout — a specific procedure aimed at creating web pages in a text editor in accourdance with W3C standards, using HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Layout design is Front-End part of web development.
Table-based Layout
The primary method for web page layout has always been table-based layout until ~2010 year. Over time, other layout methods have emerged; Tables helped to create modular grids, various borders, adjust the color scheme of the main background of the page, align certain positions, and so on. That was the case when IE6 had its share on the market, and no mobile devices internet / bowsers was around.
Block-based Layout
One of the concepts of semantic layout, which is carried out using specific blocks and CSS tables. Later it overtook "table-based layout", and derived into various concepts: flex, grid etc.
